The Herring Family, Clupeidae

How many species have you caught?

Over the past couple of years I have been paying close attention to the various species of herring that come into my boat. The North Shore of Massachusetts is home to several different species within the Clupeidae family ranging in size from the American shad to the alewife. The picture attatched to this write-up is the latest member of this family to be brought into one of my boats so far this spring. I'm pretty sure that I have keyed this guy out successfully as a hickory shad. What does everyone else think it is? send me an e-mail reillymccue@verizon.net
