Shad Attack!!

Lawrence tailrace heating up!!

Myself and two flyfishermen launched the 20 foot jetboat right in downtown Lawrence this morning for an epic shad outing. The fly of choice was a chartreuse dart of sorts. These flies were tied on a 1/0 gamakatsu with a large tunsten cone, mirage flash, and extra bright bucktail. The technique was simple, cast into the current and let the fly swing behind the boat, 9 out of every 10 fish we hooked came at the end of the swing. The shad averaged about 3 pounds with a few beefy fish shaking us off before we ever got a look. If you have the time this week give this spot a try! You won't leave disappointed!!
